Heard some of the tryouts were cut short due to the heat! It doesn’t take a genius to know that it will be too hot to play in the middle of the day in August.

Are the people that run ASA really that dumb?

06G did cut short on Saturday but went the distance on Sunday. While it was very warm it was nowhere near as oppressive as it was last year. Not sure why they cut short Sat. as there was cloud cover and was far hotter on Sun.

A bunch of girls from Thunder made the ODP pool. Did anyone else show up? (Lol) I also noticed quite a few coaches from there as well. Is this their own version of DA or ECNL?

Saw a number of 06G that I recognize from Arsenal both ECNL and Teal/Black teams. Also saw a number of PRFC girls I had seen before as well. There were 102 06 girls and I can account for 6 of them not being from AZSC or a mega club outside of the 10-12 I recognize from games played against my daughters team.

I know that AZSC wrote a bit of a manifesto (last summer if memory serves) in reference to why they view paths other than ECNL/DA as a "like" option for development and college recruiting etc.... I have noticed that a large contingent of the ODP coaches; disproportionate by club size to come from AZSC vs all the mega clubs.

It appeared to be a big drop off in talent level this year in 06G. A small group of high level players then a large rec contingency. The ODP has fallen out of favor with the top players.

Yea.. most see the path as DA or ECNL. That is where the talent is going. ODP is mostly for those too young to be DA or ECNL on mega clubs or those from smaller clubs where the top team is State 1. Saw kids make ODP that would stand little or no chance to make top level on big clubs. Last tournament saw Star forward on ODP against a 20 minute per game sub defender from APL team and the defender shuts her down every time. Talent level is way down. Also.. seems there might be a correlation between clubs with coaches in ODP and club players making ODP. The math is easy when you look at the clubs the coaches come from and the members of those clubs that make the rosters. But then again it may be only players from those clubs that are trying out.

Most of the Rising ECNL girls (who made up a majority of the team last year) seem to have skipped. I heard that Rising had mandatory ECNL practices on Saturday for their girls' teams so many missed because of that.

For the 06's, a handful that were on the ODP team last year don't play for Rising anymore and moved to the DA.

ODP will eventually die. There simply is no reason to do it especially if your son or daughter is on a DA or ECNL squad.

You can’t play ODP if you are on a DA team, correct?

I think there is still value in ODP. It would be amazing to see a best statewide XI. Presently the best players are spread across DA, ECNL as well as those playing on lesser teams than their personal level.
I would have a scouting system, as well as open communication with ALL clubs - when those coaches/scouts see something special then it gets documented and sent up the channels. Eliminate tryouts altogether.

Yea fat chance. Why would the DA/ECNL clubs/coaches do this? They know who the best players are and they get invited to the ECNL and DA tryouts. If they are really good they get an offer. And why would AYSA? AYSA makes fat cash charging for the tryouts and camps. The clubs provide coaches and their kids provide the marketing. Look at how many of our players made it to ODP.. we are so awesome come join our club. Its a very mature vetted stream of revenue and back scratching.
